Rust and Indigo dyeing
Blackberry dyeing in grandpa's garden
Hand washed, carded, plied, and dyed wool that has been mordanted and dyed with a variety natural materials
This was my first time experimenting with natural dyes on fabric, so I created these sample boards to document my findings. Here I show my results for brazilwood, cutch, red onion skin, red cabbage, henna, and pomegranite. For each natural dye I compared three different types of fabric (cotton, silk, and linen) with how they react to different mordants and the color intensity based on the amount of time they soak in the dye bath. I hope to use natural dyeing in future projects in order to practice sustainability.
